Li, Hongbin is a professor in the School of Electronics, Peking University. From 2008 to 2012, he served as the Director of State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks, which is set up jointly by Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. At the same time, he was also the Director of Institute of Modern Communication Technology. He was graduated from Xidian University, Xi'an, China with Bachelor Degree, Master Degree respectively in 1986 and 1989. His research interests focus on communication networks.
Prof. Li was honored the Second National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology in 2002 and 2008 due his great contributions in the research and development of communication networks. Prof. Li has served as the member or director in Specialist Group in communication field of National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) for more than 20 years, where he was in charge of strategy research and organization of major projects. Prof. Li is a member of Triple play expert group of the State Council and executive member of the council in China Institute of Communication. Considering his deep influence in the communication field, Prof. Li is appointed as Independent Director of China Unicom and Jiangsu Broadcasting Cable Information Network Corporation Limited.
Prof. Li has led more than ten national key S&T Special Projects, including 863 Programs. His research achievements are summarized as follows.
1) 3TNet: It is the Tbit/s-grade communication network in the Yangtze River Delta region. HDTV was transferred via this network for the first time, which promotes the development of the Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB).
2) High Performance Network over Coax (HINOC): It is a standard of the access technology over coax which has our own independent intellectual property rights. Prof. Li and his team have successfully developed the Gbit/s-grade HINOC communication system and SoC for coaxial cable access network, which has been widely deployed in China.
